hi, I just read your shout on the project asking if there will be an "occultist" class?
what did you have in mind? this won't become a an actual class, but might become a profession that you can learn, if I like the idea and it fits in the gameplay (I won't add something magical, I want to keep it clearly technical)
so I would like to hear your ideas ^^

thanks!

well while a fan of steampunk in general my personal flavor runs the vein of arcano-steampunk
which has a healthy magical flavor in addition to the steampunky dirty goodness. I can however understand the reluctance to add magical elements to a very realistic game setup i love the techicnical aspect you're throwing together. however i happened to fall in love with privateer press's Iron kingdoms which has that exact feel...however you can easily stay away from classical magic by sticking to more of an occult base. Divination (classical fortunetelling with a little more accuracy, throwing bones, tarot cards, things like that) but mostly magic of a runic nature, symbols and mystic sigils and arcane circles, i just happen to love the idea of a gunslinger taking the time to scribe runes into his bullets and having them going off like grenades when hitting a target, if you're interested in the concept on any level message me back and we can possibly find a better way of communication beyond deviant art for us to discuss with
:iconmachina-obscura:
hmm. 'I guess one could feature some kind of trick magic, when it comes to that divination you mentioned, maybe even shamanism or the runes, they would stay without real effect and would be more like a superstition. I really want to keep it clear from magic to stick out somehow, you know ^^;
but I would still like to hear your propositions, as they could for well be a great source of inspiration for the game play! :)
you can contact me via machina-obscura@gmx.de outside of dA. Or check out our FORUM (username is Frederic Summerscale). :handshake:

i agree with the superstition kinda thing, but even in an npc tool it would work pretty nicely as a plot moving device, i guess what i have imagined in my head is a slight deviation from your current setting concept, which in essence throws that veiled fantasy under the mortal world, sortof akin to the sci-fi channel adaptation of "the dresden files" yeah there is magic, and mystical critters just outside the realm of standard human perception, but to manifest anything really worthwhile you practically kill yourself, perhaps something like what i'm talking about would go great as an acessory supplement, i mean there is a real world basis to a lot of the occult studies, demonology, artifacts of power, stuff like that, i mean hitler had scores of people studying this kinda thing. maybe as an aspect part of that whole apocalyptic war that pre-dates the game's setting involved a few of the supernatural nasties getting loose, i'm not talking about having an archaeologist suddenly flinging fireballs and lightning, i don't think that would fit...but an archeologist opening up an ancient tomb being thrown back a few feet because the tomb was cursed by the black magic of ancient egypt and he had the forethought to wear a "good luck charm" (aka talisman) to protect himself resulting in the throw back instead of him ending up dying mysteriously days later, i think could add some fun flavor for a bit of a reality that isn't always surface simple.
:iconmachina-obscura:
yeah, I guess I can add some mystical force the ancient civilizations used, but other than that, I want to keep fantasy completely out of it. there are so many fantasy games out there, and only a few (if at all) with no fantasy. I want to get on that track. ^^

Wow.... You've been on here since I was in elementary, and you STILL haven't posted anything... weird.
:iconwolfshinobi:
yeah...mostly because i don't feel like my stuff is worth posting, and i got the account really because at some point you couldn't even run a search for images without an account
:iconpoe-was-emo:
Hmmm... Interesting reason. Seems this site used to be quite primative...

Also, may I ask you you don't feel your work is worth posting?
